Sharjah Book Fair starts on October 30
This year, the fair will carry the theme of 'The Open Book Capital of the World in Sharjah'.
The Sharjah Book Authority announced on Monday that the 38th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) will be held from October 30 to November 9.
According to Ahmed Bin Rakad Al Ameri, Chairman of the SBA Board of Directors, this year's book fair will be held under the title Sharjah World Book Fair (SWBC), 'Open Books Open Minds', to promote books and reading across age groups and communities.
Authors, publishers, intellectuals and artists from all over the world will bring their expertise and experience to the popular annual event and add color to its vibrant cultural programme.
'As a cultural beacon in the region, Sharjah's position has risen as a result of the pioneering efforts of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and our primary goal is to promote an environment of knowledge and innovation built on the foundations of books and reading. As UNESCO World Book Capital 2019, we present an exceptional literary and cultural show for the Sharjah International Book Fair, the world's third largest celebration of the book'.
'The 38th edition of SIBF has taken the same Sharjah International Book logo to emphasize the emirate's important achievements as an international center for authorship, culture and creativity. This will be an exceptional edition of the book fair, where our events and discussions will be centered, all of which will highlight the ability of the book to ignite people's minds and appreciate and bring cultural differences closer.”
